Since 2003 Team Denmark’s men has been a proud member of the World’s best ice hockey company, the IIHF top group. Denmark reached the quarterfinals twice, in 2010 and 2016 and despite the best number of points ever – 12 – and four wins during the group stage in Helsinki 2022, Denmark didn’t not proceed to the quarterfinals this time.

The Women’s national team also plays among the best nations and two of Denmark’s big hockey cities, Herning and Frederikshavn, is looking forward to host the World Women’s Ice Hockey Championship in 2022.

Both national teams competed at the Olympics in Beijing in 2022.

Denmark is a small ice hockey nation consisting of only 17 clubs and around 30 ice rinks – a lot of hockey communities has both an arena and a second rink for practice, thus the smaller number of clubs. The best Danish league, Metal Ligaen, consists of nine professional organizations. After the Danish Superliga of football/soccer it is best attended sports league in Denmark together with the men’s handball league.

The Women’s league, Kvindeligaen, is growing in quality and attendance as well and women’s hockey is one of the focus areas for the Danish Ice Hockey Federation (DIU) these years.

Denmark hasn’t got the strongest tradition in E-hockey, but one of the Metal Ligaen-teams, Herlev Eagles, has a strong team which plays in the second best level in Europe.

The Danish qualifiers for the IIHF eWorld Championship 2022 will be played on the 23th of June.
